Reba McEntire - "For My Broken Heart"

She’s the queen of country music, a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, and she’s won more Entertainer of the Year awards from the CMAs than any other person in history, and yet somehow she is still often over looked in the mainstream media.

I fell in love with this song when I was 8 years old. I loved it so much I sang it for a talent show at summer camp, and today as I woke up this song came ringing back to me. In the vein of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” it tells the simple, balanced, honest story of the morning after, when you realize the world still goes on regardless of your broken heart.

So today, with red eyes looking at the dawn, I choose Reba McEntire’s “For My Broken Heart” as my, truer words were never said, hold on to the life preserver, just don’t sink, song for a, break open and let the hurt out, it never gets easier, it does get better, Tuesday.
