Kacey Musgraves - "Oh What A World"

January 29, 2021  /  Reid Lee

You. Are. Enough.

Some days it is enough to simply remember this statement.

You. Are. Enough.

Say it as many times as you need to make it feel true, because it is.

So, today, enough, I choose Kacey Musgraves’ "Oh What A World" as my, sit in the silence, know your worth, kings & queens, song for a, light up the skies, shatter the ceilings, if they don’t believe in you here - go somewhere they do, Friday.

Some days you just need to remind yourself to fill your own heart with joy. Create the love you wish to offer. Be the light.

This was a luminous performance that I find myself rewatching time and again.

So today, with a humble gratitude, I choose Nick Jonas, Katie Hall & Samantha Barks’s version of "A Heart Full of Love” from the Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary show as my dream a little dream, a little drop of rain, the tigers, song for a, awaken, shine, hope, Thursday.

Anson Seabra - "Trying My Best"

Aren’t we all …

An emotive singer/songwriter, Anson Seabra makes artfully crafted and philosophical, piano-driven pop. He emerged online in 2018 and built a fan base with songs like "Broken" and "Emerald Eyes." A Kansas City, Missouri native, Seabra started taking piano lessons at age six and played in school bands growing up.

So today, trying, I choose Anson Seabra’s “Trying My Best” as my, chug chugga lug, breathe, unclench your jaw, song for a, things aren’t as dark as they seem, find the shiny you’ve had for so long, don’t let the bastards get you down, Wednesday.

Sometimes you’ve just got to get it done yourself.

We all know I love Demi’s powerhouse vocals, and infuse them over Clean Bandit’s mix of pop and classical and you have a match made in heaven for me.

Clean Bandit are a British electronic music group, formed in Cambridge in 2008. As of 2020, the group consists of Grace Chatto and brothers Jack and Luke Patterson. Many of their projects are known for blending elements of both classical and dance music, and featuring guest vocalists. Notable collaborators include Marina, Demi Lovato, Jess Glynne, Anne-Marie, Sean Paul, Zara Larsson, Julia Michaels, Luis Fonsi, Ellie Goulding and Mabel.

So today, for myself, I choose Clean Bandit’s "Solo (feat. Demi Lovato)" as my, one person to count on, matters into your own hands, if you want it done right, song for a, bridge the gap, take the leap, fly forward, Tuesday.

Somedays you just need to get out into the wild. Find the air to breathe. Pray for rain.

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE (born 2 October 1951), known as Sting, is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and actor. He was the principal songwriter, lead singer, and bassist for new wave rock band the Police from 1977 to 1984, and launched a solo career in 1985. He has included elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age and worldbeat in his music.

As a solo musician and a member of the Police, Sting has received 17 Grammy Awards: he won Song of the Year for "Every Breath You Take", three Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist in 1994 and Outstanding Contribution in 2002, a Golden Globe, an Emmy and four nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. In 2019, he received a BMI Award for "Every Breath You Take" becoming the most played song in radio history. In 2002, Sting received the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors and was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Police in 2003. In 2000, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for recording. In 2003, Sting received a CBE from Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for services to music. He was made a Kennedy Center Honoree at the White House in 2014, and was awarded the Polar Music Prize in 2017.

With the Police, Sting became one of the world's best-selling music artists. Solo and with the Police combined, he has sold over 100 million records. In 2006, Paste ranked him 62nd of the 100 best living songwriters. He was 63rd of VH1's 100 greatest artists of rock, and 80th of Q magazine's 100 greatest musical stars of the 20th century. He has collaborated with other musicians on songs such as "Money for Nothing" with Dire Straits, "Rise & Fall" with Craig David, "All for Love" with Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart, "You Will Be My Ain True Love" with Alison Krauss, and introduced the North African music genre raï to Western audiences through the hit song "Desert Rose" with Cheb Mami. In 2018, he released the album 44/876, a collaboration with Jamaican musician Shaggy, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2019.

So today, into the desert nights, I choose Sting’s “Desert Rose” as my, find what blooms, heal your hurt, like a sky littered with diamonds, song for a, rinse away the grime, fall back through time, open your petals like wings, Friday.

Loverboy - "Working for the Weekend"

January 21, 2021  /  Reid Lee

Some days that’s all you’re doing.

Loverboy is a Canadian rock band formed in 1979. They were established in Calgary, Alberta, but are currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Loverboy's hit singles, particularly "Turn Me Loose" and "Working for the Weekend", have become arena rock staples and are still heard on many classic rock and classic hits radio stations across Canada and the United States.

After being rejected by many American record labels, they signed with Columbia/CBS Records Canada and began recording their first album on March 20, 1980. Loverboy's founding members were lead singer Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, keyboardist Doug Johnson, bassist Scott Smith, and drummer Matt Frenette. Throughout the 1980s, Loverboy accumulated numerous hit songs in Canada and the United States, earning four multi-platinum albums and selling millions of records. Except for a brief breakup from 1988 to 1991, the band has continued to perform live shows regularly.

So keep at it kids, we’re almost there.

Today, one day away, I choose Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend” as my keep on, chug chug, ho hum, song for a, sneaky pete, little fires, don’t let the door hit ya’, Thursday.

It was a lovely moment where you could feel the support for the LQBTQ community. Gaga’s rendition was powerful and emotional, and just what we needed.

She said herself that she wore a dove of peace in the hopes that the nation mind find that peace.

So today, with hope on the horizon, I choose Lady Gaga’s inaugural "National Anthem” as my, here we go, lift off, belief makes it real, song for a, don’t let go of the dream, this land is your land, we can step up brighter and stronger, Wednesday.

Congratulations Mr. President Joe Biden & Vice President Madame Kamala Harris.
