Rick Astley - "Never Gonna Give You Up"

May 31, 2017  /  Reid Lee

Some days you wake up with the song in your head and raring to go! Today was one of those days! As I thought about all I've been trying to accomplish with my career I thought, instead, about my dream. My dream to touch people with my music, and how, even to a small extent, that is happening now. It has made all the effort worth it, and I honestly know now that I will never stop creating.

So in the immortal words of Mr. Astley himself, Dream: I'm never gonna give you up.

So today, with laughter and sweat I choose Rick Astley - "Never Gonna Give You Up" as my, keep on keepin' on, one heart at a time, no one has built this road - you must pave it before you can walk it yourself, song for a, rewards come in small gifts, take every chance to celebrate, gratitude at every turn of fortune, Wednesday.

MRM - "Sorry (Bieber cover)"

May 30, 2017  /  Reid Lee

I've been In love with this track for a while now. It's technically a re-post but it's good enough to warrant two postings. I don't usually love Bieber, but the three souls singing this job make something magical out of what could be a simple forgettable pop song.

I've been lucky enough to perform with all three of the singers on this track, Rocky Heron, Marley Otto, and Mark Cramer find a beautiful synergy in their harmonies and a delicate braiding of voices that doesn't come around often. One voice never presses for attention but each of them get equal play in this beautiful acoustic rendition of Bieber's hit.

So, today with laughter and hope, I choose MRM's version of Justin Bieber's "Sorry" as my, never too late, never surrender, never forget, song for a, press into the hard parts, the ache is how you know it was real, the light will find you if you give it a chance, Tuesday.

Reid Lee - "Over You (feat. Mark Cramer)"

May 26, 2017  /  Reid Lee

This song was a labor of love. After going through some heartbreak and falling in love with Ingrid Michaelson's version of this song, I asked one of my best friends, Mark Cramer, to sing it with me. I knew Mark's voice would fit perfectly with this sound, and he does an incredible job ... I mean listen to him and try not to swoon!

With the help of Craig Hendry, an amazing pianist and vocalist himself (listen for his background vocals) we made something that feels truly magical. With soft harmonies and a delicate vocal balance this is an acoustic version homage to Ingrid Michaelson's original featuring A Great Big World.

This is also the first time I've ever posted a S.O.T.D. that I'm singing on, so please be kind.

So today, with memories falling from my pockets, I choose Reid Lee's version of Ingrid Michaelson's "Over You (feat. Mark Cramer)" as my, embrace chance at every chance, take the risks you've held yourself back from, the only chains that bind you are the ones you've made yourself, song for a, let me let you go, believe yourself into being the person you want to become, catch you on the flip side, Friday.

Trisha Yearwood - "When We Were Still In Love"

May 25, 2017  /  Reid Lee

She’s a platinum-selling, multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM Award winning vocalist with one of the most powerful voices in country music. From the moment her very first single debuted at #1 on the Billboard Country Singles Chart (“She’s In Love With The Boy” in 1991), she has charmed audiences with her warmth, wit and honesty. From selecting the songs that move her, to determining how she was “packaged” by the music industry, she has graciously but firmly stood her ground.  As a singer, Trisha is a world-class interpreter of emotion, and that is something that I admire greatly.

She was once called "The Greatest Voice in Country Music" and that is something I believe to be true, at least for her generation of country music singer. She never has ventured far from her genre, but it just goes to prove the old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I hope she never does.

So today, with a wistful nod to the past and a hopeful look to the future, I choose Trisha Yearwood's "When We Were Still In Love" as my, get on down to it, find a way to walk on, live for the moment you're in, song for a, don't let heartache hold you back, embrace change - it is the only constant, find every little happiness along the way, Thursday.
